The Olympics buzz has been increasing. There are more and more signs around town promoting the athletic event. My son is learning the official Olympics promotional theme song at school and can easily identify the mascots created for both the Olympics and Paralympics. "Tokyo Gorin Ondo 2020" is a remake of the theme song for the 1964 Tokyo Olympic games. It has been dusted off and updated to be inclusive of both events.
The Kawagoe train station proudly displays a sign stating the Olympics golf competition would be held in Kawagoe. Since I love Kawagoe, I loved to learn this fact.
I like that the Olympic events are held throughout the area and not just in a centralized location. Spread the joy.
In 2017 my family headed to Tokyo. My husband had a new job and my son and I came along for the ride. This move was my second move to Japan - the first was for a year in 2002. At that time I was a single, recent college graduate. Moving abroad as a family was a whole different ball of wax. As I live this crazy life in Japan, I track our adventures and my observations, creating an unofficial guidebook to the city.
