Although Japan is known worldwide for it's cherry blossoms, it also has an impressive display of plum blossoms each year. The plum trees bloom in late February and early March, depending on the variety. In Seattle, the first signs of spring are announced when the crocus bloom. Here, it is plum blossoms.
Today we enjoyed the beautiful weather and spent several hours in the park. My son and his friends played for a bit in a plum tree grove.
We've had several rainy days recently, where I prioritized reading lessons over playing at the park. But on a sunny day, I just can't stay inside.
The plum blossoms might not be as breathtaking as cherry blossoms, they are certainly beautiful in their own right.
In 2017 my family headed to Tokyo. My husband had a new job and my son and I came along for the ride. This move was my second move to Japan - the first was for a year in 2002. At that time I was a single, recent college graduate. Moving abroad as a family was a whole different ball of wax. As I live this crazy life in Japan, I track our adventures and my observations, creating an unofficial guidebook to the city.
