Black sesame deliciousness

It's not a secret that I love black sesame everything.  Black sesame cake, black sesame bread, black sesame pudding, to name a few.  But nothing beats black sesame ice cream.  I often describe it as a peanut butter flavor, but it truly is more than that.

Before I moved here, I saw an ad on Facebook (yes, Facebook) for a shop that only sells sesame flavored ice cream.  That is it.  At that moment, I looked at my husband and said "Ok.  We can move to Japan!"

It took some time to make it a priority, but we finally did.  We visited Gomaya Kuki and tried their sesame ice cream.  I called it a shop, not a restaurant, on purpose because it is simply a window attached to a different restaurant.  At the window we learned that they have 6 different flavors of ice cream.  There is black sesame and white sesame in 2 intensities (medium and strong), plus black sesame ice cream with salt and white sesame with grains.  Each ¥500 cup comes with two scoops of your choice.  Following the employee's recommendation, we chose to have the 4 basic flavors, medium intensity white sesame ice cream with strong intensity black and vis versa.  We also listed  to their suggestion and added more sesame seeds and a bit of sesame oil on top.

The ice cream is incredibly smooth and flavorful.  My mouth was immediately happy.  The mix of flavors was incredible!  The different intensities were obvious and so interesting.

As we dined, my husband informed me that the ice cream shop was created and owned by a sesame oil company.  I was impressed by their ingenuity and creative side business.  He also mentioned how close it was to our old stomping grounds, Azabujuban, where we stayed in temporary housing.

So, now the question is: will we be going back?  Well, it isn't very close or easy for us to get to.  However, if we happen to be in the neighborhood, then yes we will!  And our mouths will be happy if we do.

The time has come to say goodbye

Earlier this year my husband applied for a new job. As usual, I encouraged him as he went through the interview process. It was a long, draw...
