And, yet, I still have begun to see the signs of spring making it's first timid appearance. While at the shrine the other day, I saw plum blossoms. Typically people associate Japan with it's cherry blossoms. However, before the cherries come the plums and it is cause for celebration. The blooms start a new cycle of life. Similar to the crocus of the Northwest, the plum blossoms show nature is awakening from its winter slumber. Soon we will be able to celebrate them in their full glory. But for now, we shall enjoy the small glimpses we are able to find.
In 2017 my family headed to Tokyo. My husband had a new job and my son and I came along for the ride. This move was my second move to Japan - the first was for a year in 2002. At that time I was a single, recent college graduate. Moving abroad as a family was a whole different ball of wax. As I live this crazy life in Japan, I track our adventures and my observations, creating an unofficial guidebook to the city.

Signs of spring
There are still little hills of snow here and there. It can still be found in the shaded areas of the park and community, as well as where it got piled and packed down. The wind can be chilling at times, even when in the sunshine.
