Down a quiet street in Kichijouji, hiding in plain site, is a little world of cats. From the outside, Kichijouji Petit Mura appears to be a magical place of cuteness. The buildings are straight out of an animated film, creating a magical world.
With the awe of a child, we entered the small courtyard. Gawking at each and every detail, it was fun to explore and find so many cat themed elements. My son immediately went from dragging from the heat to jumping for joy. The whole environment was incredible.
There is a tea house on the first floor that we did not indulge in. If I had planned better, I would have liked to indulge in the afternoon tea featuring scones, cake, and fruit. The photos on the menu outside looked so scrumptious!
Up a rounded staircase is a cat lovers dream shop. There were so many cat products that entertained the eyes. It was really sweet that my son found the cat books and sat himself right down to peruse them. The merchandise included purses, shoes, stationary, kitchen wares, and so much more.
Even if you don't like cats, this is such a fun little find. Someone really put their heart and soul into this tiny wonderland. It is so fun and whimsical!
In 2017 my family headed to Tokyo. My husband had a new job and my son and I came along for the ride. This move was my second move to Japan - the first was for a year in 2002. At that time I was a single, recent college graduate. Moving abroad as a family was a whole different ball of wax. As I live this crazy life in Japan, I track our adventures and my observations, creating an unofficial guidebook to the city.
