Air-con worship

I don't know what I would do without air-conditioning these days.  It has consistently been in the 30s/90s for some time now.  Add in the humidity, and it is simply unbearable.  Although I take my son to splash parks and swimming, it is still horrid going to and fro.

The other day, my husband and I were heading to bed shortly after midnight.  We exclaimed just how cool it felt.  I almost offered to sleep without the air-conditioner (known as air-con in Japanese), until we realized it was still 28°C/82°F!  It just felt cool because it was so much cooler than it has been.

I woke up late today, sleeping in while my husband and son got haircuts.  After they returned, they found me doing laundry and hanging our bedding outside for airing out.  I also was busy cooking a bit for the upcoming week as well.

We hung out for a bit, but the boys really wanted to leave the house.  I, however, did not.  I'm tired of the heat and humidity.  We didn't have any firm family plans, just a couple ideas that we had tossed about.  So, I decided to stay at home while the boys ventured out.  I didn't want to leave the comfort of the air-conditioning!

The guys started out in Omotesando where they found a special activity of building bugs with cardboard.  For my bug-loving kid, this was a fantastic activity.  My husband had read about the activity in an email from the company that owns the building he works in.  They own several properties and often send out emails advertising different events anyone can join.

Afterwards they found tonkatsu (pork cutlet) for lunch and then headed home.  They decided they didn't want to be in the heat either!  They came back home and collapsed in the air-conditioning.  Even though it was 4 pm, they both fell asleep.  Being in the heat is extra exhausting.

We had a relaxed evening.  I made lentil tacos that were super quick and easy.  Plus, I can use the leftover lentils for a taco salad later in the week.

We wrapped up the evening with reading "Henry and Ribsy" by Beverly Cleary.  I spent the whole day inside, with the exception of hanging and bringing in the laundry.  I find it sad that I don't want to leave the house these days, but I really am not a fan of the intense summer weather.  Luckily there are a lot of fun things to do in Tokyo to entice me to brave the heat.

The time has come to say goodbye

Earlier this year my husband applied for a new job. As usual, I encouraged him as he went through the interview process. It was a long, draw...
