While I'm not typically a fan of yeast doughnuts (I'm an old fashioned girl), when I saw Krispy Kreme I was happy to purchase the American favorite. While out on an adventure with friends, someone told me that there was a Krispy Kreme shop right next to Tachikawa Station (where we were already transferring trains).
Since my son only cares that he is consuming sweetness, he was enthusiastic to try the pillows of sugar. What sent him over the edge in excitement was the doughnuts decorated like Sesame Street characters. Japan is constantly upping their game in cute food and these doughnuts did not disappoint.
Frankly, they tasted exactly the same as the ones in the US. This is strange, since many treats are toned down in the sugar levels in Japan, but the recipe stayed true to the original. Now I need a glass of milk because I'm all sugared out!
In 2017 my family headed to Tokyo. My husband had a new job and my son and I came along for the ride. This move was my second move to Japan - the first was for a year in 2002. At that time I was a single, recent college graduate. Moving abroad as a family was a whole different ball of wax. As I live this crazy life in Japan, I track our adventures and my observations, creating an unofficial guidebook to the city.
