I admittedly take my son to a lot of parks. It is good for his health to be outside and he learns so much every time he scales a play structure. He learns he can accomplish hard things. He builds trust with his body. Testing limits and finding joy is the whole purpose of going to the park.
Sometimes we seek out parks, but other times they appear. No matter how we come about the park, we are always delighted. If we don't have very much time, my son makes a game out of doing everything once as fast as he can. Luckily, the other day we had some time to just let him climb and explore.
While at the Saitama Children's Zoo, we discovered two parks for kids to enjoy on their special day viewing animals.
The first was pretty basic. It consisted of a fun roller slide and several things to climb. Although it was geared toward smaller children, there were kids of all sizes playing.
The second park was jaw dropping for my son. It was what he defines as a "ninja training park." These parks really challenge kids to test their limits. My son loves it! He balances, climbs, and conquers like the best of them. His little heart beams every time he achieves a new feat.
Every time we find one of these magical, challenging parks, we enjoy it for as long as we can. I just wish we had one closer to us! I will keep searching.
In 2017 my family headed to Tokyo. My husband had a new job and my son and I came along for the ride. This move was my second move to Japan - the first was for a year in 2002. At that time I was a single, recent college graduate. Moving abroad as a family was a whole different ball of wax. As I live this crazy life in Japan, I track our adventures and my observations, creating an unofficial guidebook to the city.
