The smell of wonderful childhood memories

I grew up in the city of Portland Oregon, also known as the city of roses.  Some of my favorite childhood memories include visiting the beautiful rose garden with thousands of roses from around the world.  I loved wandering around to see all the varieties of roses.  My family would enjoy picnics while listening to philharmonics, chamber orchestras, and symphonies play during the summer.  It was something I looked forward to every summer.

When we entered Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden to go to the Wooden Toy Festival, there was a sign telling us which flowers were at the height of bloom.  I was thrilled to see the rose garden was on that list.

I took the time to duck over to the garden to see and smell the roses.  The garden consists of two large grass areas with roses around the perimeter.  Attendees can walk around the inside of the garden in the grass, or around the perimeter in gravel paths.

No matter which path you take, the smell of roses wafts through the air.  There were so many bright colors for the eyes to take in.  It was a delight for all the senses.

Black Tea (had an amazing scent)

Sharifa Asma
Yellow Fleurette
Arabesque
Brass Band
I loved seeing the varieties that were named after the princesses of the Imperial Family.

Spending the time in the rose garden was a great way to relax on the weekend.  I only wish that I could hear classical music in the background.
