Chocolate masterpiece

I continue to find evidence confirming my belief that Japanese people love to play with their food.  In so many ways, food is interactive here.  From meals cooked at the table to tons of build your own candy sets, Japanese people continue to view food as entertainment.

The fun snack store, Yesterday's Tomorrow in Shinjuku, sells many fun foods, including several candy kits.  Similar to gingerbread houses, the kits allow people to build something edible.  We bought our son a chocolate train kit for a rainy day.

Today happened to be a rainy day.  So, after school, my son and I cracked open the box and got to work.

We melted the chocolate and poured it into the molds.

After letting it set, we glued it together and decorated with the cookies provided.

The build was super quick, because in our cool house the chocolate dried really quickly.

The train isn't the most spectacular project we've ever done together.  But we did it together (although after my husband got home, or son did tell him that he made the train ALL BY HIMSELF!) and that is what really matters.
