After sleeping in this morning (until past 9 am!!! - a huge achievement for a mom of a young child), my husband took our son out to play in the park. Upon returning, my husband announced that it was too nice of a day to stay inside. I was doing some research, but the spring weather was just too nice to be ignored.
We hopped on our bikes and rode a ways to a large pond in Nerima. We used a vending machine to pay for a 30 minute boat rental. My husband has been wanting to go do this activity because it isn't everyday you find swan shaped paddle boats.
We were quite cramped in the boat, as the pedals were placed for people shorter than my 5' 6". I kept vacillating between having my knees in my chest and a cramp in my back. The cramped quarters was more comical than annoying, in part because my son was delighted with his job of steering the boat. Once he got the hang of turning the steering wheel a little versus a lot, we all enjoyed the afternoon paddling around the pond.
I wouldn't really expect to be paddling around in a swan in Japan, but it is also totally expected. They love cute and swan paddle boats definitely fit into the cute category.
In 2017 my family headed to Tokyo. My husband had a new job and my son and I came along for the ride. This move was my second move to Japan - the first was for a year in 2002. At that time I was a single, recent college graduate. Moving abroad as a family was a whole different ball of wax. As I live this crazy life in Japan, I track our adventures and my observations, creating an unofficial guidebook to the city.
