After having a couple busy days sightseeing, it was important for everyone to take a break. After all, taking breaks can allow a person to recharge their batteries and be able to absorb more of the experience. So, today, I did not plan anything.
We took my son to the park for him to play with friends while I took my parents shopping. I dropped my dad off at the ¥100 shop, Daiso, with strict instructions that he could not leave the store until we came to get him. It wasn't that hard for him since it is two stories of stuff to look at. I didn't want him to leave because I am terrified he will get lost!
After letting my dad free to wander the store, I took my stepmom next door to the fabric store where we looked at all sorts of different fabrics. My stepmom is the person who taught me to quilt and I often use her scraps to make quilts. We looked at several items and decided we needed to come back again another day, as to not leave my dad to his own devices too long.
We found my dad in the bike/auto area of Daiso. He found a couple items he wanted to purchase. I helped him with the transaction (although he is getting really good about figuring out what money is what and how to pay, he still has a hard time remembering to put the money in the tray versus hand it to the cashier and that he has to bag his own items).
It was already lunchtime, so we headed to the store to buy bentos to eat in the park. When we got back to my son and our friends at the park, I got the whole story of what happened when we were shopping. Once again, my son fell into the pond. I'm starting to think he gets a thrill out of it. He was jumping from one rock to another and lost his balance. Luckily it was a sunny day and not too cold in the park. The moms watching him quickly got him toweled off and into clean clothes. I had to laugh when I picked up his bag of wet clothes because they were so heavy!
We enjoyed our bentos while the kids continued to play and then spent time chatting with the moms until it was time to head home.
Tomorrow we have another busy day. A laid back day was really nice for so many reasons, even if my son made it more exciting than we anticipated!
In 2017 my family headed to Tokyo. My husband had a new job and my son and I came along for the ride. This move was my second move to Japan - the first was for a year in 2002. At that time I was a single, recent college graduate. Moving abroad as a family was a whole different ball of wax. As I live this crazy life in Japan, I track our adventures and my observations, creating an unofficial guidebook to the city.
