Mister Donut did it again. They are always creating seasonal and limited edition doughnuts to draw in the crowds. My husband couldn't resist the Pokémon decorations or Christmas themed donuts and brought home a box of them.
He actually placed an order and went to pick them up because they only make so many at one time and he didn't want to wait in line with everyone else. The line is pretty unbelievable, but the masses wait for pretty much anything around here.
On his way home, Pikachu got a little excited and fell over onto the Pokémon ball. Luckily it didn't affect the flavor.
Honestly, I did not like any of these donuts. Sure they were cute, but their flavors and textures were not anything I would pick. The old fashioned donut - typically my favorite - had a banana icing on it that reminded me of Runts candy. Pikachu was filled with whipped cream, but the Pokémon ball didn't have any filling. The snowmen were filled with air, meaning they had huge air pockets and were so soft that it didn't feel like you were eating much of anything.
One nice thing about Mister Donut pastries is that they are not sickening sweet. They definitely have a lot less sugar than American donuts. However, I still wouldn't recommend these particular seasonal donuts. They just aren't worth the calories. Maybe I'm being extra judgmental since I was just able to enjoy my favorite donuts in the world - Mighty-O Donuts in Seattle. Nevertheless, these donuts are cute, but are not awesome.
In 2017 my family headed to Tokyo. My husband had a new job and my son and I came along for the ride. This move was my second move to Japan - the first was for a year in 2002. At that time I was a single, recent college graduate. Moving abroad as a family was a whole different ball of wax. As I live this crazy life in Japan, I track our adventures and my observations, creating an unofficial guidebook to the city.

Have you ever been to Blue Star donuts in Portland? They are probably the best I've had--we consider them "donuts for adults". They do flavors like Passionfruit, or Blueberry Bourbon Basil.
