The rainy season has officially begun in Japan. For the next three to six weeks it will rain pretty much daily. I get a break from watering the garden and my son gets lots of puddle stomping time.
All the rain can be hard for some, but it doesn't bother me much. I grew up in a rainy area. Although it rains a lot in Seattle, it doesn't usually come down as quickly and as heavily as it does in Tokyo. It will rain an average of 185 mm (7.28 inches) in June. Seattle only gets 53 mm (2.1 inches) in the same month.
I love the sound of the pouring raining. It is such a purifying sound to my ears. Sometimes I will just open a window or door and listen to the rain.
Let it rain. Let it pour. I shall enjoy it while it is here.
In 2017 my family headed to Tokyo. My husband had a new job and my son and I came along for the ride. This move was my second move to Japan - the first was for a year in 2002. At that time I was a single, recent college graduate. Moving abroad as a family was a whole different ball of wax. As I live this crazy life in Japan, I track our adventures and my observations, creating an unofficial guidebook to the city.
