While on an overnight getaway (more on that in an upcoming blog), we found out we could view autumn leaves at night. There is a plum tree garden near our hotel that also features many other varieties of trees, including maple trees. The hotel provided a shuttle service that we were happy to utilize. The setup was simple - there were spot lights set up in various locations to show off the changing colors. These trees are known for gradually changing from green to red. I loved gazing at these trees. My favorite tree had bright red leaves right next to vibrant green leaves. The contrast under the light was incredible.
*** I'm sorry to report that my photos do not do the evening justice. So, please pardon the lackluster photos. ***
The Japanese are known for stopping and smelling the roses, so they say, as they really do pause and soak in the beauty nature has to offer. It would have been easier for us to stay in the hotel tonight, all cozy in our futons. Instead, we welcomed the opportunity to enjoy something that is only offered once a year. And I couldn’t stop smiling the whole time.
In 2017 my family headed to Tokyo. My husband had a new job and my son and I came along for the ride. This move was my second move to Japan - the first was for a year in 2002. At that time I was a single, recent college graduate. Moving abroad as a family was a whole different ball of wax. As I live this crazy life in Japan, I track our adventures and my observations, creating an unofficial guidebook to the city.
